Instructor 

 

Your teacher's name is Barbara. She will provide you with a homelike atmosphere at the CLS homestay and a friendly and safe environment. You will receive 25 hours a week of formal instruction and lots of informal conversation, both in the home and at activities and events. You will get a total immersion with a friendly, caring and supportive teacher.

 

Your teacher is a fully qualified, certified English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. Her qualifications meet the standards of the Canadian English teacher's association, Teaching English as a Second Language in Canada (TESL Canada).  She has a Level Three Professional Certificate from the Professional Standards Board of TESL Canada. These qualifications include a

         Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English from Simon Fraser University 

         CERTESL (Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language) from the University of Saskatchewan.

 

In addition, she holds the

         Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID) from the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education.

 

Barbara has over ten years experience teaching English to ESL students, both immigrants and international students. She specializes in teaching speaking and listening plus pronunciation. She is a native English speaker having lived in British Columbia, Canada all of her life.

 

Besides teaching ESL, Barbara has worked in the public service for the governments of both Canada and British Columbia in employment, social services and human rights. In addition, she has also volunteered in her community working for environmental, conservation and social service issues.

 

Her personal interests include organic gardening, native plants, conservation, nature, natural landscaping, healthy housing, self-sufficiency, animals, and especially Arabian horses.
